The Storm [Lisa Gerrard]

{Denise gracefully hosts Six Sentence Stories, where writers unleash their magic under one simple rule: in no more or no less than 6 sentences.
This week’s prompt word is : GESTURE }

The Storm

A storm hit the sailing ship, with sudden force as if trying to compensate the brief duration with the impact in its wake.

Sail lines became a knot, no easy way to have them untangled.

The ship’s crew remained in silence, the symphony of the storm the only sound felt.

And yet… and yet… even amidst the storm around them & within… they knew this was wrong, unnatural… as the world shifted, ever so slightly, off its axis.

Time passed, until a hand reached out – not confident, perhaps rough, yet hopeful… a gesture… like the one years ago, when the line of a bridge to come aboard was thrown, only to be met with ” I’m game”… ( if only they knew the journey ahead… then again, it is better we do not know, so that we can see if we are brave enough to follow the path ).

Hands met in the middle of the distance between them, turned into a hug… storm quieted away… and the world shifted smiling, ever so slightly, back on its axis.

    • So glad you liked it! I am quite partial when it comes to Lisa and her music.

It could very well be; her singing has been the soundtrack of so many memorable movie scenes.
Thank you so much for tuning in, Violet.

Wishing you a wonderful rest of the summer.

      • Hello, Spira…you probably don’t remember me, but I was hoping I’d run across you again, and I hope you are well. Heartsong is a pseudonym–I’m glad to learn it has lovely Navajo meaning. Rene is my true middle name, though. Take good care of yourself, God bless you abundantly.

        • I was using different names for each blog I opened–can’t remember the last one I used. If previously you read 6SS about the characters Bedelia and Finn, that was me–and still is, with different blog and username. May your day, and the rest of your week be abundantly blessed!

  1. Beautifully crafted Six, Nick. Weathering such storms and coming out the other side of them not only intact but stronger, is testimony to the “sailors” experiencing them.
Bookended image and music, a perfect match.

    • Denise… thank you.

True words… intact and with a bond that runs deeper & stronger than before.

You know that everything I create/write/post has a meaning/ purpose; ” bookended to a perfect match” I like the sound of that.

  2. I remembered something that might jog your memory: you had written a poem and/or included an image (your own art–I now think it was a piece of sculpture perhaps), not sure–but it moved me deeply, inspired me to write a poem…which you appreciated.

Maybe this is too vague…maybe you have many readers who write poems that are inspired by your art. If I find that I still have that poem in my files somewhere, I’ll get back to you about it.

Take good care of yourself, may God bless you abundantly.

      • Unfortunately much of my writing got tossed earlier this year during a purge. The 3 flash drives are all I have left, and only show work from 2011 to maybe 2015–so I don’t have the poem I wrote for you.

But at least you have evidence on your posts and Comment box that I did visit your site with a significant amount of interest, and exchange of communications regarding the sculpture Nascent (and other art), and the feeling it evoked in me…which led to a poem.
Some days we must be satisfied with whatever’s left after the fire.

  3. nicely done, yo

nothing like standing on the deck of a small(ish) ship in a storm at sea to bring home how small we can be.*

*and, paradoxically enough** how, if we have the spirit, we can touch true power

** you saw that coming, didn’t ‘cha?

    • Indeed, it’s a surefire way to get into our thick skulls how small we are.
Aye…all trials, whether by fire or by sea end up, if survived, in a new understanding.

      Cheers, Clark.

  4. I came over to have a 2nd read of your story…I’m struck by the elegance within violent drama. You are an extraordinary artist, unqualed by most. Take good care of yourself–we need you around. God bless you in every way.
